Mamas In Waiting exists to meet the needs of women of color who have experienced infertility, pregnancy loss and other challenges on their path to motherhood, no matter where they may be on their journey. We are a place for women to be seen, cared for, supported and understood. Here are a few of our programs:
Events
Whether at our Annual Spa Retreat, our Sisters in Bloom Brunch or virtual learning sessions, we create experiences for women to rest, rejuvenate, find hope and heal.
Community
We are intentional about fostering relationships between the women that we serve, both on and offline, and making sure that no one ever feels alone.
Resources
From emergency support grants to direct access to trusted mental health professionals and faith leaders, we work hard to respond to the tangible, practical challenges that Mamas In Waiting face.

About Us
Born of a “midnight bargain with God” in 2021, our founder Erica Williams Simon knows the experience of being a mama-in-waiting all to well. So too do the powerful women who have joined her in this mission.
An award-winning narrative strategist, author, and creative, Erica channels her expertise in narrative and social impact to create a supportive, judgment-free space for women of color to heal, find community, and access resources throughout their reproductive journeys.
She is joined by both a Board of Directors and advisory committee of accomplished women committed to nurturing and caring for their sisters and changing the future of reproductive health for Black women.

Sometimes, even “self-care” can feel like a burden. At Mamas In Waiting, we believe in creating opportunities for you to rest and release in community. We know how lonely this journey can be and so we prioritize creating safe spaces that allow for you to feel loved on and nurtured by other women who “get it” and can care for you in moments when self-care feels out of reach.

This part of your life is sacred and deserves sensitivity. First and foremost, we honor grief, fear and all of the hard things that have come with your journey. Always. But you also deserve joy! As mamas in waiting, we hold both as essential for healing and make sure that women not only have space for the hard things, but also to lift the weight off your shoulders, even for a bit, and just have fun.

Whether you are waiting for healing, pregnancy, closure, direction or just peace, there is no one way to be a mama in waiting, and we welcome you no matter your story. Our community is made up of women who have experienced all stages of pregnancy loss, infertility, IVF, considering adoption, secondary infertility, and even those wrestling with whether or not to close the door on this chapter altogether. All are welcome.

For us, serving one another is about our entire being, spirit and soul included. Mamas In Waiting creates safe spaces for real talk about faith and honoring the role that our faith plays in our stories. We believe Isaiah 40:31 which says “They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles…”
The Mamas-In- Waiting Experience
Our inaugural retreat to nurture and love on mamas-in-waiting took place during Mother’s Day weekend, May 10-11, 2024 in Kent Island, MD. And it was everything.
